In the beginning....

Shortly after graduation from Va Tech, I landed in Charlottesville, Virginia.  There I eventually got on with Comdial, one of the last manufacturing outfits left in the US.  At the time, most of the manufacturing in the country was being outsourced to Mexico (these were the late 80's and China had not yet emerged as the manufactuing powerhouse they would eventually become).

My first position with the company put me on the front lines of technical support to our customers.  From this I learned some very valuable skills which are useful to this day; remote troubleshooting;  being able to listen to, or through, a remote technician gahtering on-site intel.
